When “in the moment,” I must tune myself in a certain way (achieve a certain psycho-physical state), in order to receive creative signals. These precious signals belong to the realm of subtle, “weak currents.” The voice of intuiting is very faint; to hear it, one must be in a state of deep artistic calm, tranquility and acute receptivity. One’s instrument, in the meantime, must be conditioned to be fully obedient to these subtle signals.
Psychologists and esoteric practitioners know these truths; artists learn from them, or from experience. Steven Spielberg talks about the voice of intuition being very quiet. So, to receive its subtle, delicate signals, I must tune myself to an appropriate wave-length; I must become an ultra-sensitive receiver (and also conductor), of a very particular kind.
That is why one cannot just jump straight into the state of inspiration, as many actors are trying to do. Every rehearsal and performance require a prior psycho-physical tune-up. The Demidov School of Acting offers specific techniques and exercises that allow us to tune ourselves to a creative frequency or wave-length.
