Summer Philosophy about Acting

THINGS I ABSORBED, THOUGHT ABOUT, LEARNED, READ OR HEARD THIS SUMMER.

To tell YOUR truth sincerely is the pitiful pretension of what we call theatre. To lie with ABSOLUTE sincerity is the euphoria of the ART of the theatre.

– Let us stop confusing our truth with art’s truth. If simple theatre reproduces life, then the art of theatre inherently must invent real life, this invention is a direct criticism of the poverty of existence most people choose to live their life in.

– That’s why we are not speaking our truth, our truth stems out of our poverty, but the truth, the theatrical truth stems out of richness and abundance.

– What most people think must be rooted in politics I now believe must be rooted in art.

– Every political side (left and right) has become a disgusting part of populism, if you consider yourself to be a progressive artist then you have two options, Contrarian-ism or silence. Smart people might choose the later, everything else is the noise of populism in disguise!

– Don’t worry there are colors in silence not all silences are the same.

– As an artist one must fight the urge to do popular things in unison. Chanting banal “tunes” together is not collectivity, is part of brainwashing.

– A carnival is not a revolution!

– ACTING IS PROBLEM SOLVING, this means art is another problem we must solve.

– Some people seek to grow in their souls, others in how popular they become…thank god not all people think like that…it seems that true art seeking is an elitist’s hobby.

– Know this (it is a natural law) people will endure anything for a grain of universal truth. The truth in tragedy (and in comedy) is impossible as long as hope is confused with comfort. You’re not supposed to be comfortable, but you can be hopeful.

– For the last two decades the narrative art is dying in our hands…you are responsible!

– Part of this loss, is the fact that we have lost our perception of beauty, we only find the beauty in design and lights, instead of story, we try to influence the masses, true stories don’t influence a mass, when you tell a true story the audience is disunited, it sits alone, it suffers alone, because we die alone! Influence the individual, don’t think in bulk!

– Nobody talks about real beauty anymore.

– When society becomes as corrupt as ours is then story telling becomes a source of true resistance.
